A day in Glasgow
Glasgow, Scotland
13.10.2011 - 13.10.2011
Went into the city of Glasgow this morning. It was cold enough that when I headed out, I returned to the hotel to pack a jacket. Though it didn't get cold enough for me to use it.
I slept in a lot so when the bus driver turned me away for not having exact change, I started to panic I was going to lose most of the day.
A walked down the main street of the suburb I was in looking for a good place to eat. I was looking for a place that served Scottish food (though wasn't even sure what that was other than Haggis, which I didn't want). After going a while ended up eating at an Italian food place with the idea I would go to a Scottish place to eat for dinner. The food at the place I went to though was really good.
With change, I was able to take the bus into Glasgow. Walking the streets randomly, I found the place I was going to look before before finding a map. The City Chambers was an extremely impressive building and they told me there was a tour at 2:30. That was enough time to explore the area, get a map and buy some toiletries.

The tour was pretty good, and afterwards I managed to quickly see the Glasgow Cathedral and the St Mungo Museum.

Afterwards I looked for a pub to have dinner before going back to the hotel. Mostly finding Italian places I marked down the one pub I saw before the tour. But when actually going to it, I thought it was too close to the square the City Chambers and other big buildings are around so will probably be expensive.
In the end I went to a pub recommended by a hotel booklet and the Lonely Planet guide, so went there. Only when I'd ordered a drink and sat down and looked at the menu that I saw the food was Mexican. So I ended up having a Burrito for my Scottish meal.
Getting back it is all I could do to not take a nap. Instead I've needed to do a check where I can do laundry, write this, then work out how I am going to get to Manchester/London. I put those two together in a slash as I am currently tempted to skip Manchester and head straight down to London.
Manchester was going to be a break while travelling down England, but current experience is telling me staying in a hotel for a single night isn't really a break, and the trip is about five to nine hours depending on whether I get the train or bus.
But that decision is for after posting this. The next day won't be eventful, just laundry and travel, but I might post something.
