Transit

Dublin, Ireland to Glasgow, Scotland

overcast

I had anxiety dreams throughout the night and a melancholic feeling has come and gone throughout the day. But the melancholic feelings are probably just due to the relative inactivity of today.

I visited the Dublin Writers Museum for the morning before my flight to Glasgow. The booking of the flight meant that the overall time spent in Dublin was fixed. Though maybe slightly early, I hadn't thought the time wasn't enough to see the main attractions.

But I started to regret it this morning when I looked at the Writer's Association building next door and saw they had one and two day courses. I probably would have spent some more time in Dublin to have a course in the city that prides itself on writing.

The rest of the day has been a writeoff. Although the plane trip to Glasgow was extremely short. I have a habit of turning up too early at airports when abroad. This time wasn't too bad, getting there an hour earlier than everybody else instead of two to three hours earlier. My former self wouldn't have even gone to the Writers Museum so close before a flight.

Afterwards, I was absolutely buggered and haven't been able to do anything after the trip. Tomorrow I'm hoping to see a few of the things in Glasgow, then do some laundry at night.

Most of the points of interest are scattered around Scotland and there isn't much in Glasgow. Tomorrow I will have to content myself with just looking that some of the grand buildings around George Square.

The hotel I've booked is far from the city center. Something I thought I'd checked but I just have had Google maps zoomed out more than I thought. It took two bus rides and two long walks to get here from the airport. But I got less lost than first getting to Dublin, though I'd made some of the same mistakes in preparation.

But the people are fantastically friendly and helpful. After the two bus rides and not finding the place from directions, I asked a cap driver if he knew where it was, thinking I was close now anyway so it should be cheap. The cab driver gave me directions since the place was close, forgoing a cab fare to help me out. Though at that stage I almost had the mentality of spending money just to get to the hotel.

Also, since I missed the final turnoff, I asked directions from two ladies at a bus stop. Not only did they try to direct me, but since they were a little unsure, one phoned a friend up for me. Then after the friend was slightly unsure, she phoned the hotel number on my reservation for me.

Tomorrow I should be able to do some sightseeing and have some good food.
